photonovel

for this week's class, we were briefed on a new project that we need to start working on (right after submitting one,,, cries)

the project is photonovel. we will have to create a photonovel inspired by someone else's story by using it to relate to a current issue we face now. (it can be used as a metaphor?)

i'm still thinking about who i can interview and i was thinking of choosing one of my friends or my family members because the chances of them agreeing to take their time out to let me interview them (during this pandemic) will be higher! :,-)

Photonovel is a genre of storytelling, consisting of a series of illustrations, photographs, text captions and balloon dialogues (Collins English Dictionary, n.d.) Photonovel first came to light in 1947 in Italy. (Aslı Narin, n.d.)

TW: gore One of the photonovels made back then was a series called "Killing". It's an Italian photonovel by publisher Ponzoni and editor Pietro Granelli that has been adapted into several languages like Turkish and French. It's an anti-hero comic where it's about a vicious criminal who wears this skeleton bodysuit and likes to slaughter, especially young women (Killing., n.d.) as you can see from the pictures below!

in this photonovel, i can see that the genre is thriller/horror (?)

also there's use of more than one character (1 lead character with side characters) + photographs + dialogues in speech bubbles.

first things first, i will need to look into the different genres and tropes before moving on to planning the photonovel.

things I'll consider before next tutorial:

- more in depth research on photo novels

- what are the genres/tropes i can delve into

- who i want to interview!! maybe a few potential people (and stories from them)

requirements for the photonovel:

—softcover —staple bound (saddle stitch) —document size = 148mm x 210mm —36 pages (+ cover) —interior pages: 1 colour maximum —cover: 1 colour minimum —one model throughout (to portray more than different roles/characters)

there will be 2 interims: week 7 (interview) & week 10 (work in progress) !!!!

lots to get done aa wish me luck!
