08 MacGuffin Magazine
MacGuffin Magazine is a crafts and design Dutch magazine that's only released biannually. Every issue focuses on one subject matter that's usually an everyday object that's disregarded around us, with the theme "The Life of Things". For example, for their first issue, the subject matter is "bed". Stack Magazines had interviewed them asking why "bed" as their focus for their first issue and they answered,
"the bed is a rich base for personal stories, and an object that leads to the most varied contemplations on ‘The Life of Things’. But it’s also an object that designers tend to leave well alone – the ratio of beds to chairs at the average design fair is 1:1000s – and the idea of it is perfect for a first issue: the beginning and end of everything.

I love love the visuals and theme of the magazine because first of all, their aesthetics align with mine. Besides that, I love that from an ordinary everyday object, they are able to produce such interesting and engaging pieces of not only artwork, but writings too.
They had also mentioned it in the interview with Stack Magazine, how they decided the visual tone for the magazine. With the help of their graphic designer, Sandra Kassenaar, they wanted to create a magazine that would make the reader want to read, feel and keep it so they made it diversified with the combination of readable essays and remarkable images.
They also put details like the paper feel into account. Their magazine is printed on Arcoprint Milk, a lovely velvet paper that makes you want to touch the magazine all day. (Behind the scenes: MacGuffin magazine, 2018, August 10).
