clay letterform

for this workshop we had to get our hands down in the dirtttt. well, not exactly dirt, just clay!

to start off this activity, we were told to walk around the college compound and find an interesting subject matter, and to take pictures of it for later's use. after we all found our subject matters, we were to use our subject matter and create a typography with it. the idea is to deconstruct the subject matter and then build it back into the form of typography. sounds easy but it takes a lot of thinking!!

to make a typography using the subject matter, we learn to take in the details like the texture and shape of each part. we sketched out the subject matter that we have picked and later, the typography using parts of the subject matter. for myself, I have picked a part of the vending machine. I found it interesting because of the various shapes there were. from there, I tried to sketch out possible ideas for my letterform. the alphabet I picked was the alphabet 'A'.

afterwards, following the sketch that i've done, i made the letterform's shape using clay.

lastly, after modelling the clay into the letterform i did, i followed ms sue jane's tutorial on how to colour the clay using photoshop to colour the letterform.

and here's the final result, with colour! tadaaaa!
